Episode 113 - Paranormal Ponderings IV - Cryptids with Hex-Files

What is a cryptid? The easy answer is - some type of creature/being/entity that is said to exist, but has never been proven to exist. Bigfoot, Nessie, Normie, Thunderbirds, you get the idea. Cryptids do fall under the catagory of paranormal phenomena in the sense that we just don’t know WHAT they are, so here we are talking about cryptids in a Paranormal Ponderings episode. Josh and Tamara of The Hex-Files Podcast join me in this episode to talk about a Bigfoot investigation they went on fairly recently, we’ll discuss the cryptids of their home state of North Carolina and also do a rhetorical “Battle Royale” type of thing with Bigfoot Vs. Mothman, that kind of thing. Who would win? Listen and find out! Music of the episode provided by The Weakerthans with the song “Bigfoot” and The Marred with the song “A Hidden Presence”. So, press play and let’s go look for Bigfoot!

Episode 110 - Pleasant Gehman Interview Part One - Early Days, L.A. Punk and Music

Pleasant Gehman has quite the history of magical mayhem. From her days growing up on the East Coast, to her shennangans as a founder of the Los Angeles punk rock scene, Pleasant has some stories to tell. We’ll also hear from Pleasant about her (continuing!!) days of making music, notably in this interview her time in Screamin’ Sirens - the most fun band rock n roll and the earth has ever seen or heard. Two Screamin’ Sirens songs are in this one - “Love Slave” and “Maniac”. Brought to you by Plan 9 Alehouse and Good Life Digestive Health. Here are some links!

Episode 109 - Disney's Haunted Mansion with Jeff Baham

Welcome, foolish mortals, to Episode 109 of The Bobcast! Chef Mayhem, er, Jeff Baham is THE source for all things Disney’s Haunted Mansion. Jeff is the force behind the greatest Haunted Mansion website ever created, Doombuggies.com. Jeff wrote a book all about Disney’s Haunted Mansion. Jeff hosts three podcasts that deal with Disney and the Haunted Mansion. You might think the guy is a little obsessed with the Haunted Mansion at this point? Yes, I think so, but what a lovely obsession it is! Jeff and I talk all about his life, his work and of course, the Haunted Mansion. How would Jeff change the Mansion if he could go back in time? Are there REAL ghosts roaming the hallowed halls of the Mansion? Did a REAL haunted mansion inspire Walt Disney in his desire to see a haunted house attraction in his perfect theme park? Listen to this episode and there’s no need for any “messages from beyond” to answer those questions! Brought to you by Sticker Junkie. Cover version of “Grim Grinning Ghosts” performed by Pulley. Episode 107 - The Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Episode

Have you read any of the “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” series of books? As a kid? As an adult? Both? . These books, the Scary Stories series, made a HUGE impression on me when I read them a couple of years ago, as an adult. The artwork is terrifying and amazing. The stories are timeless and creepy, sometimes funny, sometimes disgusting. Always entertaining and fun, that’s the trick of these stories. They grab you and won’t let go. Just like some of the baddies in the stories? Oh, but the art, that’s the REAL kicker, isn’t it? The art in the Scary Stories books worms it’s way into your brain and takes up permanent residence. The original art by Stephen Gammell, that is. Sinister and creepy to the point you feel the art could jump out of the pages and say “YOU HAVE IT!!!”. Here’s what you’ll get in this episode - An in-depth look at Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell. Three stories, one from each book, are dissected and analized. There’s a dramatic retelling of “The Hook”, as it was told to me, when I was a kid in the 1980’s. Then, in the final chapter of the episode, a brief look at the controversy that has plagued this book series for years and years. The Celluloid Catacombs with Carolyn Mauricette pops in to talk about the “Scary Stories…” movie adaption and some fiends of The Bobcast stop by to tell us how the Scary Stories have affected them over the years. Music of the episode by Vudu Sister, who are amazing and will delight you with their spooky sounds. Here are some links!

Episode 106 - Alex Botkin Interview (Lavasocks Records, Sarchasm, 924 Gilman St.)

When it comes to East Bay punk stuff, Alex Botkin knows his stuff. As the person behind Lavasocks Records, Alex does his part to keep the history and radness of the East Bay sound alive with releases such as “The Thing That Ate Floyd” comp. “Floyd” originally came out on Lookout! Records back in the stone ages of 1988 and has pretty much every band from the Bay Area of the time on it. An incredible record that Alex felt needed a new lease on life. Coming soon from Lavasocks is a partnership with Sell The Heart Records and a rethinking of Rancid’s classic record, “And Out Come The Wolves”. This version has a much better title, “And Out Come The Lawsuits”. Track by track, “…Lawsuits” features 19 bands covering ALL 19 songs on the original record and WOW. It’s an amazing record! So, Alex and I talk about the records, a little music history of the Bay Area, Gilman Street, Lookout Records, Rancid and more! Music of the episode is two songs of of “Floyd” and “…Lawsuits” - Sweet Baby and Cringer off of Floyd, Danger Inc. and Sarchasm off of Lawsuits. Episode 105 - Tetrarch Interview

Tetrarch is a band that is getting quite a bit of attention lately, and rightly so. They have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are today. Touring, putting out music, sleeping in Walmart parking lots. Whatever it takes to get their amazing music out there, this band has done it. This episode of The Bobcast features an interview with Josh Fore, the singer and guitarist of Tetrarch and we talked about some rad stuff. SPOILERS AHEAD! How Josh and Diamond Rowe met - hint - she almost killed him. Which Green Day record is best to listen to all the way through - it’s American Idiot. How the band got it’s name and more! You also get to hear one of the songs off of Tetrarch’s brand new record, “Unstable” and that song is “Negative Noise”. A thrash-terpiece of amazing metal mayhem. Included with the price of admission is a brand new Crusty’s Corner, where our pal Michael Crusty spends some time talking to Daniel Dekay about their favorite Judas Priest record. Well, not abductions or “Men In Black”, but UFOs abound. Jen of the “Later, Dicks!” sticker empire, Pleasant Gehman of literally everything cool ever, Jonny Cuz of Se Vende, Travis Latrine of Sad Girlz Club and lastly, Josh Goldman of The Raging Nathans and Rad Girlfriend Records all hyperspaced in for this episode with their respective tales of mysterious objects in the sky. Episode 103 - Paranormal Ponderings Part II with Maria Wessenauer

The Paranormal Ponderings series continues with Part II, this time it’s all about haunted places and horrifying history! More creepy history than horrifying, I suppose? As with all of the “Paranormal Ponderings” episodes, I brought in an expert to discuss the subject of the episode. Haunted Places? Creepy History? Maria Wessenauer of Hollywood Exhumed has the facts, the details and the experiences that fill in all the blanks with this one! Maria has such a wealth of knowledge about the morbid history of the Los Angeles area, I believe her knowledge could fill an encyclopedia - a creepy compendium, if you will. Plus she’s had several experiences of strange and possibly paranormal phenomena herself! Music of the episode provided by Liverpool, England’s finest fiends, Zombina And The Skeletones. Plus! Ivy Boyd drops by with another edition of her “Mysterious Musings” series for the Bobcast, with some tales of terror from the Rosenheim Mansion in Los Angeles. Episode 101 - No Small Children Interview

No Small Children, the band, the myth, the legend. I first heard No Small Children while looking for a cover of the “Ghostbusters” theme song for a recent episode. The NSC version of the song hit me like a crossed beam hit the Stay-Puft Marshmellow Man. I mean WOW. This band, No Small Children, they are amazing. Three teachers, two of them sisters, a blistering combo of women who simply define the words Rock And Roll. This episode is an interview with No Small Children, plus four of their incredible songs. One of the songs in the episode was writtien for the kids! I think gold stars are in order for the teachers, in this case. Also featured in this episode is a review of the horror film “The Tattooist” by Carolyn Mauricette. Carolyn is the co-host of the Reely Melanted podcast, one of the main foces behind the “Blood In The Snow” film festival, a Rotten Tomatoes apporved film critic, the creator of the “View From The Dark” blog and website and more! Episode 97 -The Strange Case of the "Lost" Misfit

What would you say if I told you there has been a fifth member of The Misfits out there, hiding under our very noses for the last 40 years - unknown, unloved, unwanted? You might say I’m crazy, but here it is - proof. This episode is part mystery, part detective story and finally, once the mystery is solved, an interview with Dan Ziegler (or Sam Haines), the “lost” Misfit. Dan (Sam) has been quiet these last 40 years and for good reason. The always looming threat of retributuion from Danzing and Jerry Only if they go public? Maybe. Demonic forces and the terror they bring if they came clean? Also a maybe. What I can tell you is this - if you listen, you’ll hear the story of this unfortunate 5th Misfit, but you’ll leave with a little hope. You see, this person turned it around after being removed from the band and has started their own empire of food and drinks. You’ll have to listen to the episode for more details, I don’t want to have “All Hell Break Loose” by giving you all the details here and now! You’ll also hear parts of three tracks that the lost Misfit blared and blazed some saxaphone on, that missed the final cut of “Walk Among Us”, which are “20 Eyes”, “Skulls” and “I Turned Into A Martian”. Unreleased! Unheard in 40 years! RARE RARE RARE!!! You heard it here on the Bobcast first, folks! I even threw in four Misfits covers for good measure by Shades Apart, Rebecca Lorna, Mikey & His Uke and Entombed! Good lord, this one is amazing. Episode 96 - The Grant Lawrence Interview (The Smugglers, Lookout! Zoomout!)

Grant Lawrence is a venn diagram gone horribly, horribly wrong. Where do you start with this guy? Grant is the singer of Canadian Crazies The Smugglers. He’s a radio and podcast personality for the Canadian Broadcast Corp. Books? Grant has written them and even has a children’s book on the way in late 2021. What else? Oh yeah! Grant and The Smugglers were on the Lookout! Records roster during the “Golden Years” of both Lookout! and pop-punk in general. Skoops is a very interesting person. He is an avid skateboarder, surfer and musician. Skoops is my friend. Skoops is also a black man. I feel like it is so very important to get the perspective of people outside of our own perspectives, in order to grow, learn and be a better person. So let’s talk to Skoops! We talk about growing up skating, surfing and playing music, plus much more. The songs of the episode are by bands that Skoops has been involved in through the years, the bands Bertos and Floor Notes.
